Natalia Rose, author of “The Raw Food Detox Diet,” writes, “Over time, our bodies build up poisons and store waste from food that is not fully eliminated.” Detoxing can help flush these poisons out of the body, leading to weight loss and overall better health.
Detoxing often includes eliminating processed foods from the diet, while focusing on raw fruits, vegetables and juices for optimal cleansing.
Buy organic fruits and vegetables. According to Organic.org, organic produce has a higher nutritional value. Consuming organic foods that are produced without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms or ionizing radiation is key.
Fruits and vegetables are the mainstay in a detox diet; they’re low in calories and easily digested by the body. According to Rose, fruits and vegetables are alkalizing to the body, allowing the body to rid itself of wastes and fat.
Juice your produce. Juicing organic fruits and vegetables is a great way to jump start a detox weight loss diet. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and natural enzymes, juicing fruits and vegetables will boost your immune system.
Rose says that drinking vegetable juices throughout the morning has the added benefit of nutrition and detoxing the body without the excess calories.
Remove waste. The greatest benefit of a detoxing diet is the removal of waste, especially in the colon. According to detox.org, there is a tendency for waste materials to build up in the body over time, stagnating and releasing toxins slowing into the bloodstream.
This can cause side effects like constipation, bloating, headaches, lethargy or sluggishness. In her book, Detox 4 Women, Rose says, “Raw fruits and vegetables magnetize the acid waste out of cells with their rich alkalinity, high enzyme content, and hydration.” As waste leaves, weight leaves.
Drink plenty of water. Consuming extra water is necessary to flush out excess waste, says Detox.org. Drinking plenty of water is a vital part of overall health for everyone and should remain a part of your daily routine. Rose suggests in her other book, “Detox 4 Women,” that water should be the first thing to go into the body at the start of each day.
